The CIPA Workshop on Research and Education in Urban History in the Age of Digital Libraries takes place on October 10-11, 2019 at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden, Germany. It is co-located with the Time Machine Conference 2019. The workshop is an international event for the professionals of multiple disciplines and scholars working in the Digital Cultural Heritage domain. The aim of the workshop is to bring together experts, stakeholders and researchers from the cultural domain, starting a dialogue that will lay out the foundation for the creation of a multidisciplinary community of practice.

Selected submissions will be invited for journal publication in Springer CCIS (Communications in Computer and Information Science).

Urban history, drawing on architectural heritage and cultural history, is one of the key areas in digital humanities. Regarding to that research interest, digital libraries play an important role, especially for visual media like photographs, paintings, or drawings, but also for physical and digital 3D models. Due to the wide field of possible research, different approaches, methods and technologies have emerged – and are still emerging. We aim to discuss crucial challenges for further research and encourage debate on the state of the art and future work. We would like to invite contributions on theoretical and methodological issues, application scenarios and projects, as well as novel approaches and tools. This includes the following five areas:

  • Research on Architectural and Urban Cultural Heritage
  • Technologies, Computing and Data
  • Theory and Systematization
  • Education in Urban History
  • Infrastructures and Governance

To this cause, we are seeking for original and innovative contributions in theoretical and practical applications on Digital Cultural Heritage.

Please submit an extended abstract of 1500-1700 words in PDF format by July 21, 2019 (deadline extension) via the electronic upload submission procedure on EasyChair. The conference adopts a double blind reviewing process. The authors must ensure that any information such as affiliations, contact details, e-mails or other type of information that can help identify the authors of the papers are removed from the submitted version.

Please use the Springer LaTeX2e, Microsoft Word 2003 or Microsoft Word 2007 templates and guidelines for formatting your extended abstract.

All submissions will be peer reviewed for their originality, validity, methodology, writing quality and overall contribution to the research fields of the conference.

We look forward to welcoming you to an exciting conference and workshop in Dresden!
