CfP: International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature (IGEL) 2016 biennial meeting

The International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature (IGEL) invites submissions to the 2016 biennial meeting across all areas of the empirical study of literature and media, including but not limited to, cognitive processing of literature, literature/media and culture, neuroscience and literature, literary reception, reading and emotion, historical study of literature, and corpus analysis of literature. Submissions may be accepted either as spoken presentations or as poster presentations. Acceptance decisions will be communicated to the authors by March 1, 2016.

In order to review the submission, the review committee requires a summary of the work to be reported. The summary should be 600-800 words and contain a short introduction, a description of the methods as appropriate, and a brief conclusion. Papers or posters based on data that have yet to be collected will not be accepted.

Submission Format

Submitters must complete the following fields for each submission:

1. Author information (Name, Affiliation, Country and Email addresses for all authors)
2. First author student status (this will be used for award eligibility)
3. Submission preference (Spoken Presentation, Poster Presentation).
4. At least three relevant keywords
5. Appropriate topic areas for reviewing (see in EasyChair).
6. A 75-word abstract

Submitters must also attach a proposal summary .PDF file, which should include:

1. Title
2. A 800-word summary of the presentation (not including bibliography).

The summary should have a title but no author information. It should contain basic sections including a short theoretical introduction/framework, methodological overview (including quantitative or qualitative approach), key findings, and a brief discussion. The summary will be submitted as a pdf file and should be saved using a generic same (e.g. summary.pdf) Proposals that exceed the length specified will not be reviewed.

The Program Committee will review proposals and make decisions regarding acceptance, format, and arrangement into sessions. Authors will be notified of decisions by the beginning of March 1st 2016. Inquiries about the submission process or the conference should be sent to igel2016@easychair.org

Outstanding Student Paper Award

IGEL will give an Outstanding Student Paper Award. In order to be considered for this award, the first author must be a graduate student, and the student’s supervisor must send a recommendation to igel2016@easychair.org describing the student’s contribution to the research project. First authors should indicate the eligibility of their submission using the provided checkbox during the submission process.

Symposia

Suggestions for Symposia should be emailed to igel2016@easychair.org with “IGEL Symposium Proposal” as the subject line, and should also include 1) a title, 2) a short description and 3) a list of potential contributors including email addresses. Proposals should be sent no later than November, 15, 2015. Accepted symposium proposals will then have to be submitted following the same guidelines as regular proposals. We will be adding information to the conference website over the coming months so please check the conference website regularly.

Conference submissions are due December 15, 2015 January 29, 2016.
